Whacked-Out Stars aka Design Wall Monday

Here is what I've been doing with myself.  Ironing and cutting 50 different FQs for my Wednesday afternoon class with Jane Hardy Miller.  She's our speaker this month at our Quilt Guild and after lunch will be hosting a 4-hour class teaching us Whacked-Out Stars.  Basically it's an Evening Star, but the way she has you sew and cut the finished block to make it "whacky" is pretty cool.  Thank goodness for my Accuquilt GO! Cutter.  The ironing took awhile, but the cutting was fast and easy peasy.  I'm going to do a 5x5 setting, so hence 50 different FQs -- 25 light and 25 dark.  I LOVE scrappy quilts!  :o)  Decided to use up some of my pretty Civil War fabrics -- YAY for stashes!  Can't wait to see how it turns out.

'Til later,
Suzy

Design Wall Monday

Granted, I don't have a design wall, so my cutting table will have to suffice.  In between my UFOs, I've decided to start a new project.  I can't help myself.  Really.  My 10-year old niece is redoing her bedroom and so I just have to make a quilt for her new bed.  How can I not?  I know, a silly question.  I'm sure all you other quilters totally understand.  The redeeming factor is all the fabrics are from my stash.

Anyway, according to my sister, her walls are going to be a bright teal color (hey, we're talking a 10-year old here).  Meg says it's better than the pepto pink she used to have her room.  LOL!  Anyway, the other colors are black and white (a zebra comforter), and lots of other electric/neon palettes as throw pillows.  This is a girl who isn't afraid of color!  And, yes, she is a quilter in the making.  :o)

So here is what I designed in my EQ program.  Very simple and straight-forward, as it will get a lot of daily wear and tear.  I kept the bright colors minimal so that it doesn't overpower, what with the bright wall color and all.  The finished size will be 73x85 (blocks are 12" finished), so it should fit her trundle day-bed just fine.  With all those pieces to cut, I'm ever so grateful to have my Accuquilt GO! cutter.

So what is on your design wall this week?  Pop over to Judy's and share, share, share.  :o)

Have a colorful day,
Suzy

Design Wall Monday and UFO Progress Update

Here is my UFO for this month.  I just have two borders left to put on it and the top will be done.  I call this one "Ju Ju Beads" because it kind of reminds me of those children's plastic pop beads that you could snap together.  I made it from charm squares from Kate Spain's "Terrain" line. I sooo love the colors in this collection. I started this in October when I was up north visiting my sister. My 9-year old niece took some of the leftover charms and made a tote bag for herself. Of course I supervised. She seems to really be enjoying the sewing machine I bought her for Christmas 2010. :o)

I wanted to do something easy this month since I've been and will be busy with our Guild Quilt Show which is this coming weekend.  I'm on the Boutique Committee and holy moly do we have a lot of things for sale.  It never fails to amaze me the talent and generosity of the 300 gals and guys (yes there are a couple) in my Guild.

As for last month's UFO progress, I bound 4 quilts (with one still left to do).  I am so glad to call them completely finished!  Here are two of them.  The other two are in posts below, so feel free to scroll down for additional info and pictures.  I'll post the remaining one once it's finished.

Happy quilting!
