This is my Jelly Roll Race quilt top. The center was done at our Guild's first yearly Gathering this past March. We had a ton of fun. If you want to read more on that, just look here.
I am totally loving the border I put on it. I have to say it totally makes a boring quilt pop. Very happy and cheerful. This one, along with my Floral Intrigue quilt, are going to the longarmer's on Tuesday. I'm sure I'll be posting once they are both quilted and bound. Look for more then...

Okey dokey. Here is the first of many blog posts on my outstanding projects. This one is my Pastel Tumbler Quilt Top. It is waiting in line to be quilted. It will be sent to my longarmer hopefully in the near future. We need to budget these things and other tops have taken precedence over this one. :o) Or maybe I'll just donate it to one of our Guild's charities. Time will tell...
This quilt top is several years old (probably 2010 or thereabouts) and came about when I purchased the large Tumbler Die from Accuquilt. It was a breeze to cut and fast and fun to piece. Originally, I was thinking of making a border or two for it, but I like it how it is. I used lots and lots of my pastel stash/scraps in this one. I'm hoping to make more Tumbler quilts in the future. There's plenty of stash and scraps to do so, that's for sure!

So...after realizing I've been neglectful in documenting my UFO and Kit lists, I've decided to update them. Picasa has been giving me headaches as of late anyway, which is one of the reasons I haven't been on top of things in this regard. So what I've decided to do is actually do a blog post for each UFO/Kit and have my list entry directly link to the blog post, rather than to a picture in Picasa. That way I, too, can easily see what I have and can choose (and peruse) them directly through my blog, rather than scrounging though my closets. If I have a backstory, I'll note that in the blog post, as well. This getting older thing is wreaking havoc on my memory anyway. LOL.
So over the course of the next several days (weeks?) you will see NUMEROUS blog entries. Don't be afraid...go into the light. Just kidding....
You may or may not be interested in my blog entries during this timeframe, but if you are curious, feel free to gawk and laugh at my insanity. I won't mind. If you want to comment, I won't mind that either.
Let the craziness commence,
Suzy
Lord only knows how many kits I have tucked away amidst my vast stash. I've got several posted on my blog's sideline; however, I'm ashamed to say I've acquired several more since I've updated that list. Floral Intrigue is one of them...
When I went into my UFO/Kit closet, this one was staring me right in the face. I knew it was a super quick and easy one, so I grabbed it before I could even second-guess myself and ran with it. I cut, I pieced, I sewed and sewed and sewed. I was done in a day and a half.
Here is the top:
And here is the top with the backing:
It measures 56" x 72". The backing is a Kaffe Fasset fabric that was in my deep stash. Hooray! No additional fabric purchases for this one! The binding is in the baggie -- scrappy from the fabrics leftover from the top.
It will be going to my longarmer in the next few days.
One more down,
Suzy
In the middle of my menagerie of UFOs, I got sidetracked. *hangs head in shame* But I saw this cute little quilt on Pinterest and instantly fell in love. The snippet description with the picture indicates this was from a book by Karen Costello Soltys called "Bits and Pieces." I don't know how accurate that information is, as we all know Pinterest allows people to pin whatever descriptions they want when they re-pin pictures. But I did want to give credit to the designer, just in case it is accurate.
Here is the picture as posted on Pinterest:
And, here is my interpretation. It still needs to be quilted. I absolutely adore it, and for that reason, am naming it "J'Adore." It does look kinda French to me -- I guess it should...with the exception of the polka-dotted background, I did use French General fabrics. *grin*
I also was able to use the "Queen of Hearts" Accuquilt Die (55325) to cut all the hearts. What a time-saver! This cute little quilt top went together very quickly! And, since I used charm squares to cut the hearts, I was able to cut smaller hearts from the scraps using the same Die for a future project...
Cuteness overload,
Suzy
Yesterday was our weekly Wednesday get-together. We met at my friend Mona's this week. I didn't feel like lugging my machine as it was starting to rain, so brought along my hexie project. I made quite a bit of progress and only have ONE MORE ROW to go before I'm calling this top DONE! Actually, only half a row, as I took this picture just after lunch, before starting on the last row. I'm so excited! I'm hoping to get this done to put in our Quilt Show in March.
Had a blast with the gals, as usual,
Suzy
I've had this fat quarter stack of Collection for a Cause - Mill Book Series 1852 in my stash for a while now. It called to me when I opened my closet and jumped right into my hands. I have no clue how it will all come together in the end; but for now I'm having fun mixing it up with some of my stash neutrals and making these cute little 6" blocks. I downloaded the fabric collection into my EQ7 program, and will play with layouts once I've sewn about 9-12 blocks.
Sometimes it's just fun to piece mindlessly,
Suzy
Wednesday last week I was hostess for our weekly girls' quilt get-together. There was lots of food, fun and quilty projects. Nothing is better than a day spent with your quilty girlfriends! Nothing!
Three cheers for girlfriends!
Suzy
Yep, playing catch-up again. I realized I never posted about our Guild's Gathering in March. It was a large turnout with a multitude of classes held -- at least 4-6 to choose from each morning and the same for each afternoon, over the course of the two days. I had signed up for the Jelly Roll Race class the first morning and here is me happily holding my completed top.
I was also the first done -- but it wasn't really a race... Some people only sewed their jelly roll strips into rows, while others just cut up various strips in various lengths and sewed them all together one after the other. It was a lot of fun. I sewed it like a regular jelly roll race quilt, only I put solid black squares in-between each strip. I've since put borders on my top and will show it once it's quilted. I LOVE how it turned out once I put the borders on it. It is very bright. LOL.
Our Gathering was also the unveiling of our Guild's Raffle Quilt for our Show in March 2016. Isn't it gorgeous?
Mona's and my class was the afternoon of the first day and we were the second class to fill up at sign-ups. We were pretty pleased about that. There was a max of 20 per class. Class went smoothly and there were lots of sewing machines humming and smiles and laughs. We couldn't ask for more...
Quilty happiness,
Suzy
I went from quiet days to busy days in the span of less than a week! Boy do I have a LOT to talk about. If you're interested, might as well go get a cup of coffee and sit back, relax and catch up on my goings-on. LOL.
First, what I've been working on...
Was watching Bonnie Hunter's Quilt Cam the other day and decided to start using up some of my multitude of scraps in my bins. I've been having a blast sewing up these little 3-1/2" string blocks. I have no clue what I'm going to use them for, but I'm sure there will be a project or two or three down the line where they will come in handy. I'll be working on lots of these off-and-on between other projects.
Second, guess who I saw on Tuesday evening? Bonnie herself!
My girlfriend and I drove all the way from the East Coast of Florida to Tampa on the West Coast to attend a lecture/trunk show she was giving at the Cypress Creek Quilt Guild. The trunk show was scheduled for 6:30pm so we decided to make it a mini-getaway and left my house at 8:30am, spent the night at the same Holiday Inn that Bonnie and some other quilters were staying at, and returned home Wednesday afternoon to spend the rest of the day with our usual Wednesday quilt friends. It was a wonderful lecture and Bonnie is a gifted speaker. Poor thing, though; she caught something and was losing her voice and not feeling up-to-snuff. I don't know how she does all that she does...
Funny story: We got to our hotel around 3:30pm or so, checked in, dropped off the luggage and then decided to head off to where the lecture would be held as it was then just beginning with rush hour traffic and we wanted to be sure we knew where we were going and all. Well, coming back down from our room, I was planning on heading out the side door since we parked near there, but my girlfriend, Mona, said "No, let's go through the lobby in case Bonnie's there." She's never met Bonnie in person, so she was psyched. LOL. I said, "There's no way she's there, she's probably giving a class or something." But I went anyway to appease her. Of course, Bonnie wasn't there and I kidded her. As we went out the front doors, there was a car parked at the entrance. The ever-positive Mona said, "Maybe she's in that car." I couldn't stop laughing at her excitement and rolling my eyes. She kinda discretely peeks in the driver window of the car and says, "OMG, she is in there!" I, of course, am in complete disbelief, thinking she's pulling my leg to get back at me for making fun of her, but I peek in the car anyway. Don't you know Bonnie was in there on the passenger side! Of course, then I couldn't contain my excitement to see her again, and Bonnie was so sweet and waved us around to her side and gave me a big hug and I introduced her to Mona and we chatted for a few. That's when I found out she wasn't feeling so great. Poor thing. They were on their way to the venue to set up.
We also ran into her coming back to the hotel after dinner. We were just walking into the front entrance, and the car she was in was pulling up to let her off. I couldn't help myself when we saw her again, and walked over to her as she was getting out and quipped, "Are you stalking us or something?" LOL. She was bone tired, but clued us in on where the Klondike bars are hidden in the lobby and we all walked to our rooms together. She's such a sweetie. I sure hope she's feeling better soon.
Back on track with our Tampa trip: Of course, we had to make some pit stops to and from our ultimate destination, so we made it a point to head over to Dunedin, near Clearwater, and check out the huge quilt shop they have over there called "Rainbow's End." I'm not lying when I say I was majorly overwhelmed. I only walked out of there with two jellyrolls for a class I'm taking on Friday. I think we were there for 2 hours or so, just taking it all in and ogling the fabric. They had EVERYTHING under the sun!
On our way back on Wednesday morning, we hit Lakeland and the "Fabric Warehouse" there. It was a nice shop with great prices. I scored a lot of bargains there. Check out my complete "weekend" haul... The "More Adventures With Leaders and Enders" book I purchased from Bonnie at the event. You can guess it's autographed. :o)
Next, remember the Fig Tree Contest I entered? I previously mentioned I won the one for the Fat Quarter Shop, here; but I ALSO won the one from Fig Tree itself! I've been holding off announcing it because I wanted to coincide it with Joanna's announcement. She mentioned she was planning on blogging about it on their website, along with pictures of the winning quilts (I think there were 4), but she's been busy with deadlines, so I guess it was overlooked. Anyway, I received my prizes yesterday! They were there waiting for me when I walked in the door! Woohoo!
There are 7 Fig Tree patterns, and a fat-eighth bundle of each of the fabrics in her new line "Aloha Girl" to be released this month. I was sooo hoping the fabric would be from the new line! I'm very happy, as you can guess. :oD
I'll have more soon, as tomorrow is our Guild's Gathering. I'm taking a Jelly Roll Race "class" from 9am-12pm and teaching Bonnie's Scrappy Mountains Majesties class from 1pm-4pm.
'Til next time,
Suzy
